The HIT Podcast Series discusses the financing of multifamily affordable housing

The AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust (HIT) released a new podcast as part of the HIT Podcast series, "Community Revitalization the Union Way."

George Weidenfeller, HIT's counsel, explains how affordable housing has changed over time as well as detailing the current state of affordable housing in the United States and the HIT’s approach.

"The Housing Investment Trust provides capital to help create and preserve affordable housing. From 2009 to 2016, almost 24,000 units have been constructed and rehabilitated with HIT financing. Since HIT came into existence in the 80s more than 100,000 units have been created with financing, with HIT providing the capital." Said Mr. Weidenfeller.

He added, "As the federal role decreases… state and local governments finding new ways to do affordable housing often have to look to entities like the Housing Investment find ways to infuse capital into these projects that is otherwise unavailable."
